Colt Python Problems - Colt last week issued an update that clarifies some reported issues with the relaunched .357 Magnum Python series of revolvers.
In the post above, Colt's Director of Marketing, Justin Baldini, details the many comments and concerns they have received since the rebirth of the new snake rifle.

The first is a lightning strike report from a new Python user. Baldini says this is due to the use of ammunition imported from abroad. He points out that Colt recommends using SAAMI-certified brass-cased ammunition with the Python. Nonetheless, he said the company would change the Python's mainspring "to reduce the chance of a light impact." Baldini says this "will affect the trigger pull slightly," but it will still fall within published specs for a 7-9.5-pound double-acting trigger.

Second, loose side screws interfering with cylinder rotation have been reported. Colt said they will be using thread locks in the future to prevent this. Baldini urged buyers not to remove the Colt revolver's side plates and said that those with pythons with loose side screws should contact the company so they can inspect the revolver for invisible internal damage.
Also, some new pythons may have cosmetic damage around the muzzle. As with any other issue, Baldini says if you contact Colt, they will "repair the damage with no problem."
Also, the good news is that the new generation of Pythons can be dry fired from old bikes if needed. Finally, more pythons are on their way to die-hard colt fans who want their own pythons. hello! The guns are beautiful and impressive. DA pools are great. The lockup and timing are great and the finish is great. However, there are some issues and observations. Here is a list of them, starting with the most serious.

1) Cylinder lock (severe). There is a serious locking problem with the cylinder latch. When closing the cylinder, "sticking" occurs. You have to push it back into the frame to close it. When the release is pressed with internal pressure, it is fully locked and the cylinder does not open. It looks like it should be an inside edge or something, but I can't seem to get it to work. Cleaned, oiled and tried for more than two days to no avail.
2) The burr of the crown. The crown has noticeably rough edges. The grooving also looks a bit rough.
My observation is that the cylinder/barrel gap is very narrow, 0.001-0.0015. If the cylinder gets hot from the magnum firing, it looks like this could be an issue. Single action triggers are unfortunately stiff and fairly heavy. Like I said, DA pools are great, SAs aren't.
I called Colt this morning and he sent me a package. We will advise as it progresses. I hope it will be corrected properly in time. I want to like this rifle. very good.

I'm very sorry that this happened to the new Python 2020. Hopefully Python will fix it. I also hope that the new owners will have no issues with this new Python when they start filming. One day I'd like to film and evaluate this new Python myself. I've only shot a few dozen of legacy python and haven't had any problems.
Expect some hiccups in the production rush, but you may have gotten your "Friday guns." However, it must be admitted that Colt stepped up. Let us know what he will look like when he returns!
Also, how strange is it that gunsmiths now clean a single job instead of pulling twice?

I had a very similar "sticking" problem with the cylinder latch on a King Cobra I bought last year. The cylinder was difficult to open and close, the bolt was difficult to pull back, and the cylinder did not consistently snap back into place when opened.
To check, I removed the side panel and found that the side panel screws were not tightened. After spraying some riches on the job and putting everything back together, the latch worked perfectly and has been working ever since. Still not sure what the original problem was. At first I thought it was because of the sloppy side plate fit/tolerance, but after firing the side plate eventually moved back to its original position (very slightly misaligned) and the bolts still work perfectly. There was likely some debris or metal shavings along the way, but after removing the side panel from Python last night to take pictures, I can also see where the latch spring was "compressed" or improperly assembled and caused the fastener to stick. .

It looks like the Colt is getting stronger, but if you have the right screwdriver bits and you like it, a simple double-check of the side plate and latch assembly could save you a trip to the mothership.

As I said in a previous post, I was hoping QC wouldn't be an issue like Cobra or KC... I'll hit and run, but I hope Colts QC goes up a notch. How did this question get through the cracks? How is the muzzle without a hole overlooked along with the others? Texting while browsing?
Let's hope the Colt gets these things done very quickly or has a reputation similar to that of Remington's automatic pistol.
